On December 21, 2017, a session of the UN General Assembly took place where President Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem was discussed.

As expected, the majority voted against the decision. The resolution was supported by 128 countries with 9 against: the United States, Togo, Palau, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Guatemala, Honduras, and Israel, additionally there were 35 abstentions. Representatives of 21 countries did not take part in the voting.

We read in the Prophet Zechariah (13:8) – “And it shall come to pass throughout all the land, says the Lord, two parts of it shall be cut off. They shall perish, and the third shall remain therein.”

There’s an opinion that in the future two thirds of the world’s population will perish. This is a reference to those that oppose the Jewish people. In light of that, the voting becomes very symbolic since the numbers line up exactly. Pay attention: out of 192 countries (excluding Israel), 128 voted against which is exactly two thirds! Frightening, isn’t it?

Yet, the Lubavticher Rebbe, shlita, King Moshiach explains that the prophet doesn’t refer to physical destruction but rather a spiritual dimension which will happen to the nations of the world. After the Redemption there will be a revelation of G-d in the world whereby evilwill completely disappear from the face of the earth. And it follows that among the nations of the world there willnot be evildoers nor anyone opposing the Jewish people.

Now is the right time to remind the nations of the Seven Laws of the children of Noah since through the fulfillment of these laws, the nations can earn their share in the World to Come.

Danny Dannon, Israel’s UN representative, referred to Jerusalem being Israel’s capital as an undisputed fact. As well, Nikki Haley, the US representative, warned her colleagues of the consequences in the event of their voting in support of the resolution saying that – “The President of the United States will be following the voting closely and we will take count of every vote cast.”
